UPCOMING CRAB INFORMATION:

The recreational crab season in California for 2024–2025 begins on Saturday, November 2, 2024:

Mendocino County and north: The season runs until Wednesday, July 30, 2025
All other counties: The season runs until Monday, June 30, 2025

Here are some other things to know about crabbing in California:
The minimum size for crabs is 5 ¾ inches, measured from the shortest distance through the body
The limit is 10 crabs
A valid California sport fishing license is required
An annual crab trap validation is required for crab traps
Crab traps are temporarily restricted in fishing zones 3 and 4
Crab traps may be used in fishing zones 2 and 5, but a Recreational Crab Trap Validation is required
Hoop nets, snares, and hands can still be used to take crab statewide
Avoid setting gear in areas where whales are present
